The Flu Shot…Good or Bad

After just about two years of having no medical benefits, mine came through from my new job. I am elated. I have had all these ailments and no way to get rid of them because I couldn’t afford to pay for a regular doctor appointment. So naturally I made a dentist appointment, an eye doctor appointment, and a regular doctor appointment. Going to all of those appointments I began to realize that I came to Pennsylvania with absolutely no medical records and that was not good. I had no way of knowing certain things about my health history. Usually when you go to a doctor with no medical history, you get everything as if you’ve never gotten it before. That led to me getting a flu shot (and a tetanus shot that hurt like hell afterwards).

I have never received the flu shot, but I have definitely had the flu. Every single time the seasons change I get sick. Sometimes very sick with chills and a fever. So this year I said…why not? Anytime I don’t get the shot I get sick anyway, so what can I lose? So I got the flu shot. Now if it had actually been a shot I may have said no, but it was a nasal mist. I didn’t even have to get stabbed with a needle…awesome.

When I told my cousin and coworkers, they all looked at me sadly. I didn’t understand why. Then they all proceeded to tell me how most likely the flu shot would make me sick. I had heard that they inject you with a dead form of the flu, but my boss told me that they aren’t completely dead. Well, the next morning I definitely woke up sick. Not terribly sick, but sick still. Two days later and I have a stuffy, runny nose, red eyes, sneezing fits and coughing fits. I’m not fatigued or sore or anything like that, but I’m starting to feel pretty crappy. Now I’m wondering if I should have gotten the stupid flu shot after all. I guess the answer will come when I see how long I am sick for. I am not as sick as I usually get, so that is a plus. If I do not get sick for the rest of the winter, then I’ll be very happy. I guess I’ll have to wait and see…

What about you guys? Did you get your flu shot this year? Do you plan on getting a flu shot? If you did, did it make you sick?

My oh my…how I love baths…

Is it just me, or is taking a nice hot bath one of the most wonderful things a person could do at the end of the day? Taking baths are one of my most favorite things to do in the world…if it’s in the right bathtub. I’m not talking about the small ones that come in most apartment complexes and newer houses, I mean ones that look like this:

The only thing that tub is missing is bubbles. Lots and lots of bubbles and bath salts. Otherwise, that is my picture of heaven. I will sit in a tub like that for hours on end until my skin turns all wrinkly. How many of you would resist the urge to jump right in if you saw this tub full of steamy water and bubbles and the water felt like silk? Not me. I would be in without a second thought.

I just wanted to write this little blurb about one of my favorite things to do. The tub in my house was finally fixed and I have been able to take baths and even use the whirlpool feature. Previously, if you ran water in the tub and it got more than about 5 or 6 inches high it would leak from ceiling to floor and ceiling to floor again. All the way from the attic to the basement. Not a very fun thing to clean, let me tell you. So my celebration about having a fixed tub was, of course to take a nice long bath and test it out! Works perfectly now!

So what are your favorite things to do? Does the sound of a nice warm bubble bath sound relaxing to you, or do you prefer other things?

How Do You Like Your Fried Rice?

This is a question for no tasters, tasters and supertasters. Fried rice is one of those meals that I have a love/hate relationship with. I love it because I love rice and I love to mix it with meat and eat it. My problem with it is the rest of the crap they put in it. Most people just gobble it all up, but me? Not me. I sit there for twenty minutes picking all kinds of things out of it. Also, most likely I’m annoying anyone that decides to eat that meal with me. LOL.

So when I am eating fried rice by myself, I order it with no vegetables. This means that the only thing in my fried rice is rice and meat. I also have a problem with that. I would like to have vegetables in my rice, what I absolutely DO NOT want are big chunks of gross onions and bean sprouts! Why oh why does fried rice come with that? And it’s not just a little bit of the stuff, it’s overflowing with it. If I have to get it with everything already in the rice, by the time I pick the stuff out that I do not like half of the food container is empty! Then I feel ripped off! This little thought came to me this weekend while my BF and I were trying to figure out what to eat. Him and I can never buy fried rice as a meal. If we do, he gets his and I get mine. He can eat absolutely anything. I think he is definitely a no-taster. Most of our time spent eating together consists of either me picking things out of my food, or him missing the things he loves the most in his food. SMH. That’s a topic for a later time…

So my question is this…how do you prefer your fried rice? Do you like it how it comes straight from the chinese restaurant or would you like to make your own personal changes to the recipe?

Hello world!

Hello everyone! I think that hello world is a good title for my first post. I am brand new to both WordPress and blogging. I started a blog in google but was told that this website is the best one to blog on. I hope that there are people interested in what I have to say, and if not, it’s a joy to be able to write anyway.

I am a 30 year old black female from NJ. I recently relocated to York, Pennsylvania and had to start my life over from scratch. I thought it would be interesting to write about all the crazy and unbelievable things that have happened to me in my life. I am always open to make new friends and hear suggestions. Criticism is always welcome as long as it is constructive. I am here to explore what could be a new talent for me, meet new people, and possibly be an inspiration to someone else that may be going through something that I’ve already been through. I am very excited about this new journey of mine and will begin very soon with my first real blog!
